উত্তরাপথের পক্ষ থেকে বাঁকুড়া শালডিহা কলেজের প্রাক্তন অধ্যাপক ডঃ নিমাই চন্দ্র দে ‘র  একটি সাক্ষাৎকার নেওয়ার সময় আমরা ডঃ দে’র কিছু প্রাক্তন ছাত্রদের সাথে যোগাযোগ করি এবং ডঃ দে সম্পর্কে তাদের ব্যক্তিগত মতামত জানতে চায়।কারণ আমরা বিশ্বাস করি একজন শিক্ষকের প্রকৃত মূল্যায়ন তার ছাত্রই করতে পারে। ডঃ দে’র ছাত্ররা যে মতামত আমাদের কাছে জানিয়েছেন তা আমরা কোনও রকম সংশোধন বা সংযোজন ছাড়া পুরোপুরি প্রকাশ করলাম।  

“Dr. Nimai Chandra Dey is an excellent teacher and a person of great human qualities I came across in my life. I was fortunate enough to be his student in my B.Sc. days at Saldiha College, Bankura and that helped me to shape my present career as a teacher at IIT Kharagpur. I pray almighty for good health and long life for him and his family.”

“I am very happy to share my experiences with Nimai Babu. Apart from teaching I have a relation with Sir, which I think as very personal. Recently, Sir visited Santiniketan and had a long conversion with my son (College going student with Chemistry Honours). At the evening my son told me ” Baba, you are lucky enough to have teacher like your Nimaibabu, I hope you are here for your Mastermasai”. This is my observation about my Sir Respected Nimaibabu,”

“Believe it or not I was totally unaware about Chemistry BSc course. But many insisted to take admission at Saldiha College in Chemistry subject as he is there. He was amazing in the classroom, though many friends told me to join his tution as he is the only person who give best tution in physical chemistry. Yes it is. I got wonderful classes in my college, it was pin drop silence. Many students from different colleges of Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan, Hoogly got knowledge of physical chemistry and are established worlwide. He has published important student-friendly books and uploaded many lectures in YouTube for the benefit of students. I am proud to have him as teacher.

Many more to say on his creativity but it won’t end with my few words. I pray for his good health and my sincere regards.”

“এই জীবনে আমি যত জন শিক্ষক শিক্ষিকার সান্নিধ্যে এসেছি, তাদের মধ্যে অন্যতম হলেন নিমাই চন্দ্র মহাশয়। ওনার শিক্ষা দানের পদ্ধতি গুলোই অসাধারণ। তিনি কখনোই নিজের মতো করে পড়ান না, ছাত্র ছাত্রী দের মত করে পড়ান। ওনার পড়ানোর দক্ষতা এমন ই যে একশো জনের বেশি ছাত্র ছাত্রীর ভীড়েও একটা সূক্ষ্ম আলপিন পড়লেও তার আওয়াজ কানে আসবে। ওনার অসাধারণ শিক্ষাদানের একমাত্র কারণ ওনার অধ্যাবসায়। একজন ছাত্র ছাত্রীর চেয়েও উনি অনেক বেশি পড়াশোনা করেন।

ওনার বেশ কয়েকটি উক্তি যা আমার হৃদয়ে সারা জীবন গাঁথা হয়ে আছে এবং থাকবে সেগুলি হল..

ওনাকে এই সামান্য কয়েকটা শব্দে বর্ণনা করা সম্ভব নয়। শুধু এটুকু বলতে পারি যে একজন শিক্ষক যে প্রকৃতপক্ষে মানুষ গড়ার কারিগর সেটা প্রস্ফুটিত হয় দেশ বিদেশের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় গবেষণা রত ওনার ছাত্র ছাত্রী দের দেখে। ওনার চরণে আমার প্রণাম।”

“I sincerely thank Uttarapath for taking such a great initiative in writing about our beloved professor Dr. Nimai Chandra Dey.  He has been a great inspiration to me since I joined BSc in Chemistry. I wanted to study Physics, however that was not materialised then I took Chemistry and fortunately got Prof. Dey as my teacher. Probably that was the turning point of my otherwise turbulent career. His physical chemistry teaching inspired me a lot which helped me to sail through the BSc and even the master courses in Chemistry. He used to tell us the stories about the institutions like, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, IISc Bangalore, NCL Pune, which probably helped many of us to dream about joining such institutes, which was essentially a farfetched dream for students from Shaldiha college. His voice still echoes in my mind when I brush through those chapters of physical chemistry now.

Even while in an interior college like Shaldiha, he used to dress really well matching with his tall personality and walk with confidence over the college corridor. He used to speak with a voice with modulated frequency, all these qualities in integration make him great teacher and such qualities essentially taught the students like us the professionalism. He used to write very neat over the black board and never used jump the steps especially on the thermodynamic derivation, just to facilitate everyone to understand his class. He has special ability to inspire students and realise the difficulty in their understanding. I visited couple of times at his residence after I moved to Mumbai and was treated like at home by Prof. Dey and Madam.  I am happy that we could arrange his visit to BARC once, which he delightfully attended and I am sure he has inspired many more students about BARC afterwards. There is so much things to write about our beloved professor however due to limited space let me conclude here by wishing him the best and I would be happy if any of my sentences would Cheer Dr. Dey and make him feel good. I thank Uttarapath for giving me this opportunity to write about Dr. Dey and for the wonderful effort in acknowledging the contribution of a teacher.”
